The Story

The Maisonette Hutch is an object Designed by Olive Ateliers® — a valued cornerstone of our Lieu De Vie collection, inspired by the elegance and quiet utility of French farmhouse living.

The house begins to hum as you pull the pot pies from the oven. Special plates picked off the top shelf reveal the depth of your palate. You’ve always seen your hutch as a stage on which to bring your family’s history together. To that end you nudge the fading portrait of the twins closer to the cherished Rookwood Blue Peacock Feather vase. Almost perfect but something is missing.

Flowers.

While your mother arranges Japanese Anemones in the vase, she tells the story of the chip on the porcelain farmhouse sink; again.

“Your father’s best shirts were drying on the line when the storm hit. I dropped the hot skillet on the sink and ran!”

You love your mother’s laugh.

With its elegant profile, the Maisonette Hutch stands as the backbone to any room in your Lieu De Vie. Thoughtfully handcrafted by skilled artisans the detailed cuts in the end grain are rustic but refined. In the joining of the backboards the aging of the wood is in concert with the three upper shelves. Below the pair of drawers rests keyed cupboard doors hiding a single shelf.

Each heritage piece carries the quiet imperfections and soul of something sourced, while being newly made with meticulous attention to detail. Incredibly subtle variations in tone, texture, and grain are not only expected — they’re celebrated.

You dig through the keepsakes drawer for your dad’s cufflinks - the silver ones from the Navy, the ones the kids play with; instead you find the ‘lost’ key to the lower cabinet. Hello.
